Students from Marietta’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America chapter recently attended the 2022 Lead Chapter Officer Training Conference, held September 15 in McAlester. Members attending were Maverick Mansfield, Olivia Rutledge, Alina Fernandez, Emily Faulkenberry, Kaitlin Harris, and Ryli Wilkinson.

“Lead Conference was a great opportunity for me to learn to get out of my comfort zone,” Rutledge remarked.

Dustin Galyon was the keynote speaker for the conference. With years of leadership training and public speaking experience, Galyon brought a message of encouragement and perseverance to FCCLA members.

FCCLA state officers led workshops focused on enhancing student leadership, team building, time management, FCCLA history, and avoiding burnout.

“Our speakers really stressed learning to always show up and work your hardest in anything you do,” said Fernandez.

Regional officers led opening and closing sessions.

“I absolutely loved learning about the history of FCCLA,” said Wilkinson. “It was my favorite part, learning about how FCCLA has grown and gotten better over the years."

Oklahoma FCCLA serves approximately 15,000 members in 400 chapters in both junior and senior high schools and on technology center campuses. Known as the “Ultimate Leadership Experience,” participation in FCCLA national programs, competitive events, and chapter activities helps members gain skills for life and become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.

FCCLA’s mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer science education. It is the only CareerTech student organization with family as its central focus.
