On Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, the OSSAA State Track Meet was held at Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City. Several student athletes from Marietta attended, and one, Amanda Flores, became a state champion.

Amanda Flores was the state’s best shot putter with a distance of 38’4.75”, a personal record and new school record. Flores was also third place in discus with a distance of 108’2”.

“Amanda is very driven and focused, and it most definitely showed at the state meet,” said Head Coach Tanica Anderson. “Coach Shumaker has done a fantastic job with her. All her hard work and dedication paid off and she is now a state champion!”

With a jump of 15’7”, Luciana Douglas won 8th place in the long jump.

Rosio Castellanos tied for 8th place in the pole vault with a personal record of 8’6”.

“Rosio is a senior this year,” Anderson remarked. “She has been a big part of our success this season and I was so excited to see her clear 8’6”.”

Yesenia Salazar finished the shot put in 9th place with a personal best distance of 32’10.25”.

In 11th place was the 4 x 800 relay team in 10:52.12. The team is made up of Tanasia Randle, Toriauna Douglass, Rosio Castellanos, and Maddy Torres.

The 4 x 100 relay team finished in 13th place. Reagan Denham, Haven Matthews, Ashlyn Douglass, and Luciana Douglass ran a time of 53.14.

The 4 x 400 relay also finished in 13th place. Made up of Haven Matthews, Tanasia Randle, Rosio Castellanos, and Toriauna Douglass, the team completed their race in a personal record time of 4:27.37.

Maddy Torres finished the 1600 meter run in 16th place in a time of 6:22.92.

The Lady Indians finished the state meet in 18th place out of 40 teams.

Three Indian athletes qualified for the state meet. In discus, Kaden Dudley finished in 11th with a distance of 121’6”, Austen McQueen was the 12th place finisher in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.90, and Draden Reynolds was the 12th place athlete in the shot put contest with a distance of 40’9.25”.

“Making it to the state track meet is an honor within itself,” said Head Coach Tanica Anderson, “one that not everyone achieves. I am very proud of all of our athletes who were able to represent Marietta at the state track meet. Throughout the season, our athletes have improved, and that’s what it’s all about.”
