High school and junior high teams from Marietta ran in the Madill Cat Run, held at the Madill City Lake on Saturday, September 4. Athletes represented several local schools, including Plainview, Atoka, Ardmore, Silo, Colbert, Tushka, Lone Grove, Kingston, Rattan, Coalgate, Wanette, Wilson, Milburn, and the home team Madill.

“Madill’s course is not an easy one to run,” said Coach Tanica Anderson. “There are a lot of hills and turns, so even though our times weren’t as fast, many of our runners placed higher at this meet than at the last one. Our team improved and placed higher as well.”

In the high school boys’ 3.1-mile run, the Indians came in second place with 80 points behind first-place Plainview with 57 points. The total team time for Marietta was 1:38:08.

Plainview’s total time was 1:15:12, and the Lady Indians’ was 1:15:54, proving once again that cross country is a sport where every second matters.

The Lady Indians’ highest finisher was Maddy Torres in second place with a time of 14:02.76. Close behind in third was teammate Tanasia Randle in 14:13.20. “Our kids competed against some great competition,” Anderson remarked. “We’ve got some kids injured and some a little under the weather, so we were missing several kids this week. Hopefully we will have everybody back next week.”
