Corbin Award

Marietta Middle School’s Marilyn Corbin has been featured as the Math Facts Matter Feature Teacher.

Corbin was raised in Bryan County, where she graduated from Durant High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University before beginning her teaching career in Texas. She then came to Marietta, where she has been teaching middle school math for over 25 years.

According to Corbin, one of her teaching challenges is students who come to her classroom without rapid recall of basic math facts, which makes progressing through grade level standards more difficult. To correct this, Corbin uses the Math Facts Matter program.

A division of Schoolware, Inc., Math Facts Matter is a system designed to help students rapidly master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, developing the fluency required for more difficult concepts.

“I am so proud of Ms. Corbin,” said Tammy Sherfield, Marietta’s Instructional Coach and Professional Development Coordinator. “She is such a hard-working teacher and truly deserves this honor.”
