Officers from Marietta High School’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of
America chapter recently attended leadership training with officers from other local
chapters. The Lead Conference, one of four around the state, was held September 10
in McAlester.
The conferences are designed to train chapter officers to become effective leaders
within their local chapters. The event is geared to providing general leadership training,
from introductions and handshakes, to officer-specific training, such as parliamentary
procedure training for chapter presidents and community outreach planning for vice
presidents of community service.
Aycee Dudley enjoyed reconnecting with officers and members from across the
Southeast Region.
“I enjoyed sharing ideas with other officers and learning about different projects that
other chapters do,” said Alyson Muller.
State officers led the workshops, which focused on building a positive personal brand,
officer etiquette, using the FCCLA Planning Process, building FCCLA membership, and
conducting community outreach projects. Dustin Galyon was the keynote speaker.
Oklahoma FCCLA serves approximately 28,000 members in 400 local chapters in junior
and senior high schools and on technology center campuses. Known as the "ultimate
leadership experience," participation in FCCLA national programs and chapter activities
helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.
FCCLA’s mission is “to promote personal growth and leadership development through
family and consumer sciences education,” according to the National FCCLA website. It
is the only CareerTech student organization with family as its central focus.
