Coach Jon Ross and his Marietta Indians are heating up – and so is their season. After
some early losses, the Indians have won three games straight and seem to be hitting
their stride.
The Indians got a huge win against Lawton, scoring five goals and allowing none.
“We played great – finally pull all the puzzle pieces together,” said Ross. “The team
came together and stopped any Lawton advances, and we passed the ball and moved
well across the board.”
Asael Barrientos was the standout player in that game offensively, with four goals. Erick
Serrano scored one.
Next, the Indians took on Durant and defeated the Lions 3-1. Serrano got the ball rolling
offensively, scoring a goal within the first five minutes of the game.
“We kept the momentum going from the Lawton game, and that helped us secure a
win,” Ross explained. “We were led defensively by Eduardo Ruedo, who stepped up
and played really well.”
In addition to Serrano’s early-game goal, Jonathan Garcia and Edward Buir scored one
goal apiece.
On to Madill, a high scoring game, but one in which the Indians came out on top 6-4.
“We struggled in the first half, going down 2-0,” stated Ross, “but we came out of
halftime firing on all cylinders.”
With some chippy play, the Indians tied the Wildcats 2-2 before the end, sending it to
penalty kicks to decide the game.
Jonathan Garcia scored two goals, and Buir, Andy Garcia, Silas Billy, and Serrano
scored one goal apiece.
The Indians were scheduled to hit the turf again Thursday in Oklahoma City against
ASTEC. Scores from that match were not available at press time.
