Third year Coach Katelynn McCarn-Lewis and her Marietta Lady Indians have taken to

the field and are gearing up for a tough schedule.

McCarn-Lewis will play roughly the same team members who were on her fast pitch

team in the fall, and they’re a young bunch – mostly freshmen and sophomores.

“During the fall season we worked and got more experience,” said McCarn-Lewis. “The

girls have continued to work hard and improve each day on fundamentals and we have

continued to build a positive team culture as well.”

One area where McCarn-Lewis feels her girls are strong is that they are adaptable and

coachable.

“Being coachable is the biggest ask that a coach can have of their players,” she said.

The obvious weakness is the lack of experience that any young team brings to the field.

“We’ve talked about this, and they know that being young is not an excuse,” stated

McCarn-Lewis. “It just shows us what we still have to work on.”

During the 2025 slow pitch season, that team posted a 6-13 record, one they would love

to improve on.

“To be successful, we will need to maintain a unified and positive team culture while

setting goals that we are consistently working towards,” said Coach McCarn-Lewis. “We

need to work to get better every outing we have.”

The team suffered a bit of a setback when the Tuesday, March 10, storm that wreaked

havoc in Marietta, also did damage to the softball field. High winds destroyed fencing

and knocked one of the dugouts off its foundation, so future home games may be

jeopardized, depending upon how insurance moves facilitate repairs to the complex.
