Cruz

On February 20, teachers in Marietta Public Schools will hear Dr. Luis F. Cruz, a sought-

after speaker and accomplished author in the field of education.

Cruz is a sought-after speaker, coach, and author in the field of education with over 30

years of practical experience as a teacher and administrator in elementary, middle and

high school levels.

That experience, along with his ability to communicate research-based approaches

focused on the need to ensure high levels of learning for all students, has earned him

praise from educational communities around the country.

Cruz, born to immigrant parents, blends his experience as an English learner raised in a

low-income community with his professional experience and insight to advocate the

need for public school educators to acknowledge the disconnect between antiquated

public school systems and the diverse student population they are serving.

He advocates that educators learn and commit to redesigning school to ensure learning

for all students in schools and classrooms across the country.

Cruz specializes in many areas, among them PLCs, or Professional Learning

Communities, and English Language Learners, both of which are themes integral to the

success of Marietta Public School.

“Dr. Cruz’s message is especially powerful because it centers on practical, high-impact

strategies that teachers can use immediately in their classrooms,” said Any

Christensen, Instructional Coach and Professional Development Coordinator for MPS.

“Having the opportunity to learn directly from someone of Dr. Cruz’s expertise is truly

special.

“His wisdom, clarity, and passion for equitable instruction align directly with our mission

to ensure learning for all students, and I know our teachers will leave encouraged,

equipped, and enthused about meeting the needs of every learner.”

Marietta has recently instituted Professional Learning Communities, which are groups of

educators who meet to share expertise, analyze student data, and work together to

improve teaching practices and student outcomes, shifting from isolated teaching to a

collective responsibility for all students’ success. After PLC implementation at MPS, the

district is beginning to see success, and administrators are hopeful that hearing Dr. Cruz

will further impact teachers regarding their success.

“I’ve had the opportunity to hear Dr. Cruz several times throughout my career, and he is

engaging, practical, and deeply knowledgeable,” said Superintendent Brandi Naylor.

“His approach respects the tremendous work our teachers do every day and offers real,

usable strategies they can take straight into their classrooms. We are excited for our

educators to learn from Dr. Cruz and continue the outstanding work they do for our

students.”
