Parent/Teacher conferences at Marietta Public Schools have been scheduled for
Thursday, February 5 from 3:15 to 9:15.
Although some parents may wonder if their presence at the conferences is warranted,
school administrators and teachers insist that there’s no doubt it is.
“We welcome all of our parents to our parent/teacher conferences because we consider
them not just a meeting, but an important tool in building our relationships with students’
families, supporting our teachers, and ensuring that every student has the best
opportunity to succeed in school,” said Primary Principal Ann Rutledge. “We love seeing
our students’ families and appreciate being able to visit with them face to face.”
Parent/Teacher conferences are believed to be crucial for a child’s success at school
because they build a vital home-school partnership, offering a space to discuss
academic progress, social-emotional growth, and potential challenges, allowing parents
and teachers to set goals and create strategies to support the student’s learning and
development, leading to better grades, behavior, and motivation.”
As far as Elementary Principal Dana McMillin is concerned, the conferences are vital.
“The importance of parents attending P/T conferences is twofold,” insisted McMillin.
“They help strengthen communication between home and school, and they also let the
students know that they have a tribe around them, pushing them to success.”
So, to summarize: take some time to call the school and make an appointment to see
your children’s teachers – everyone benefits when you do.
“Parents are our strategic partners in their child’s education,” stated Superintendent
Brandi Naylor, “and we’ve seen time and again how if the school has a positive
relationships with parents, the student is much more successful. The old saying, ‘It
takes a village…’ is very true.”
