For the second year in a row, Marietta Primary School participated in Rock Your School
on Tuesday, September 30.
The event is hosted by Get Your Teach On, an educational movement designed to
energize the teaching community. Educators from around the world are invited to
participate by creating an outside-the-box educational experience designed to engage
students and bring life to classrooms. GYTO provides professional development and
free resources for participating schools.
Schools who participate in Rock Your School seek to challenge themselves and their
students in new ways by joining a community of teachers who are finding new ways to
engage students.
Marietta Primary surprised students from Pre-K through second grade with a day full of
fun and engaging learning all based on an ocean theme.
“Our teachers created fun and meaningful lessons all about the ocean,” said Principal
Ann Rutledge. “We decorated our hallways, and to end the day, we invited our parents
and community members to join us in a fun school assembly to celebrate what we
learned.”
After last year’s successful Rock Your School day, making the choice to repeat the
experience was an easy one.
“Last year we had a great day,” Rutledge explained. “Our kids loved it, and our teachers
were really enthusiastic about doing it, so when it came time to decide, it’s something
we all really wanted to do again.”
