The new parking lot that will sit on the site of the old high school, directly between the
new high school and auditorium on the campus of Marietta Public Schools, is starting to
look like a parking lot.
Despite one of the wettest springs and early summers on record that greatly slowed the
project, construction is progressing.
“We have had some drainage and grading changes to make and those took a lot of
time,” said Superintendent Brandi Naylor, “but those are things that we want to get right
because if we don’t, they mean problems down the road.”
Those issues addressed, workers are preparing electrical wiring and getting ready to
stub up the light poles. After that, concrete bases will be poured ahead of the main pour,
which will be the surface itself.
“Experience has taught me that things don’t always go as planned,” Naylor explained,
“but we think that we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel, and in a matter of weeks,
we hope to have a parking lot.”
The lot replaces one that was consumed by construction of the middle/high school
facility.
“We are excited about completion of this construction,” concluded Naylor. “The parking
lot will be large enough to serve the needs of our new facility, and it will be much more
convenient for those using the auditorium, too. We know that it’s been inconvenient for
people to have to park elsewhere, and we appreciate everyone’s patience.”
