Several student athletes from Marietta High School competed in the 3A state track

meet, held May 9 and 10. After a multiple-year stretch of the state meet being hosted in

either Oklahoma City or Tulsa, this years meet was hosted at Plainview High School,

making for a much shorter drive for the Indians and Lady Indians.

On Friday, Luis Garcia placed eighth in the 3200 meter race with a personal best time of

10:10. Also on Friday, the boys 4 x 800 relay placed 13 th overall.

In Saturday’s events, Dovie Banta placed ninth in long jump and eighth in the 400

meters. Tripp Presley placed 11 th in the 800 meters, running a personal best of 2:02, and

11 th in the 1600 meter race.

Additionally, the girls 4 x 400 relay team of Liliana Fernandez, Dovie Banta, Lexus

Spanhanks, and Abigal Garcia placed 10 th with a new personal record of 4:12.

“it’s always exciting to cheer on and watch our own athletes compete at the state meet,”

said track coach Tanica Anderson. “They have worked hard throughout the season, and

it paid off. They set some new PR’s, and I am very proud of them.”
