Across the nation, educators were honored during National Teacher Appreciation Week

May 5 through 9, and Marietta’s primary, elementary, middle, and high schools were no

exception.

Monday through Thursday – because they were out of school on Friday – teachers had

treats, gifts, and meals, many of them supplied by local businesses and individuals.

“We are so appreciative of the community members and companies who blessed our

teachers with goodies,” said Elementary Principal Dana McMillin. “They made it

possible to give back to those who give so much every day. Their generous gifts,

thoughtful treats, and kind gestures reminded our educators that they are valued, and

we thank them for their support.”

In the primary school, since Monday was Cinco de Mayo, teachers celebrated in style

with lunch from La Roca and a gift of a new planner for next year. Tuesday morning,

they were greeted with a fruit and yogurt bar.

Wednesday brought two treats: a trail mix bar as well as Chik-fil-A for lunch, provided

not just for the primary, but the entire district, by the National Guard. The week ended

on Thursday with a huge candy bar where teachers could fill up a big with a selection of

their favorite candies.

In the elementary school, Monday was “Whistles and socks in your box day.”

Additionally, Melinda Brannan, widely recognized as one of Love County’s best cooks,

brought sausage balls for breakfast.

Tuesday’s theme was “Crossbody Bags for your Teacher Swag,” where teachers

received a new crossbody bag. They were also treated to a breakfast burrito by RE/Max

Lake Company.

“Let’s Plan for It” was Wednesday’s theme. Teachers received a planner for the next

school year along with Chik-fil-A for lunch from the Oklahoma National Guard and a

cupcake for dessert from Chrissy Locke.

Thursday’s theme was “Snacklebox – like a tackebox, but cooler.” Teachers were able

to fill their snacklebox with snacks. They also had fajitas for lunch courtesy of Marietta

Abstract.

In the middle and high schools, teachers were treated daily with meals, snacks, and

other gifts by parents and community members.

“We have some of the best and brightest teachers here at Marietta, and we appreciate

their hard work, dedication, long hours, and expertise,” said Primary Principal Ann

Rutledge. “And we particularly appreciate the love that they share to help all of their

students succeed.”
