At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Marietta Public Schools Board of Education held on Monday, January 8, Superintendent Brandi Naylor was rehired for the 2024-25 school year. Naylor is currently in her sixth year as superintendent for the district.

School board members were recognized for their service to the district with a poster and card created in their honor by primary and elementary students.

“Pending the primary election results in February, next month’s board meeting could possibly be the last for Frank Lornes, and we didn’t want to bypass an opportunity to recognize him one last time,” said Naylor. “Frank has served the district as a member of the board of education for over 30 years. He has helped to guide the district through administration changes, construction projects, and other challenges, and has always proved to have good judgment and a desire to do what’s best for the students and staff in our district. We will miss him more than I can say.”

Members of the board toured the middle/high school site to view the construction progress. Spring Break has been mentioned as a possible time for moving in if the site is finished in time. If not, summer break will be the next goal.

State test results were presented by primary and elementary sites, along with their goals and progress.

“Our elementary report card was above state average in all categories,” said Naylor, “and definitely something for us to be proud of.”

In other business, the district accepted an offer on the old ag farm, which sits on the east edge of Marietta on Oklahoma Highway 32.

Additionally, the school hired some personnel to complete the 2023-24 school year. Theay are Jami Bruce in middle school Language Arts replacing Elizabeth Thomas who resigned at Christmas; Jesenia Sanchez as a middle school Special Education aide replacing Amanda Ramos; Joyce Hice as a primary teacher’s aide replacing Lacey Kirk; and Gina Ham, who will train to replace high school secretary Roberta Morgan upon Morgan’s retirement at the end of the year. Ham’s duties will also include being the coordinator for the district’s social media and Sylogist, which is the program used by the district for attendance and grade-keeping.
