All four county schools are back in session with superintendents reporting a good start to the year.

Over the past five years, enrollment figures reported by administrators show a slow, steady growth trend at Marietta. Marietta’s enrollment is up 17 students over the same time last year and has increased by 64 students during the past five years, a growth rate of about six percent.

“Increasing enrollment is a good problem to have,” said Marietta’s Superintendent Brandi Naylor, “and we’re grateful for the confidence in our school.

“We’re working to be creative with staffing and funding to maintain and reduce class sizes and are working on ideas to meet our needs with classroom space.”

Currently, Marietta has 329 students enrolled in the high school, 224 in the middle school (grades six through eight), 253 in grades three through five, and 327 in the primary elementary school, which includes Pre-K through second grades.

Turner’s enrollment distribution accounts for 85 high school students and 231 students in Pre-K through eighth grades.

At Thackerville, there are 64 students enrolled in high school, 67 in middle school, and 146 in Pre-K through fifth grades.

Greenville has 100 students enrolled in grades Pre-K through eighth grade.

Enrollment figures from the fall of 1993 show Marietta with an average daily membership of 813 students, Thackerville with 265 students, Turner’s enrollment at 302, and Greenville at 135.

Given these figures, and comparing them to enrollment figures from this year, Marietta shows a 39 percent increase. Thackerville and Turner enrolled five percent more students in 2019 than in 1993, while Greenville’s enrollment decreased 26 percent since 1993.
