Celebrating National FCCLA Week

Members of the MHS Chapter of Family Career and Community Leaders of America, better known as FCCLA, celebrated National FCCLA Week Monday, February 10 through Thursday, February 13, announced chapter sponsor Amanda Faulkenberry.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “FCCLA is s’more fun with you!” Each day, members participated in activities planned with a camping theme in mind.

Monday, members enjoyed s’mores. Tuesday was “FCCLA Appreciates You” day, complete with a member appreciation lunch. Wednesday was cupcake war day. Members signed up in teams to participate in a cupcake decoration contest. Each team decorated six cupcakes with a camping theme.

On Thursday, members showed their appreciation for their teachers with an “FCCLA Loves Our Teachers” dinner served during the evening parent/teacher conferences.

Throughout the week, members also participated in prize drawings, poster and T-shirt contests, and a photo scavenger hunt.

Faulkenberry’s chapter is 47-members strong this year, and as a former member and current advisor in her 18th year, there’s no bigger fan of the many benefits of FCCLA than she is.

“FCCLA provides kids with opportunities to have experiences, develop skills, and assume leadership roles that they might not have without membership in the organization,” Faulkenberry stated. “Getting to see kids excel in things they never thought they’d even try just makes me love FCCLA even more now than I did when I was a member!”
